10 Marketing Tips for Small Businesses

marketing_tips_1911201517340Small businesses today have more places—and ways—to market themselves than ever before. Choosing a marketing method that suits your business and is affordable, however, can be challenging.

Here are some of the best marketing tips for your business.

Leverage social networks. Create profiles on all the popular social networking sites. They’re all a good source of traffic and will create opportunities for you to find customers.

Maximize message boards. These boards may not sound exciting because they’ve been around forever but they’re still an effective marketing tool.

Create instructional videos. Video content is valuable. If you can’t afford to have it produced professionally try your hand at it or hire a local film student. Video sound too challenging? Make a slide deck and share it on SlideShare.

Blog. Content still is king and one of the most effective marketing strategies for small businesses. All the better If you can create it yourself. Blogging a minimum of twice a week can significantly increase your site’s ability to be found on search engines, resulting in more traffic.

Comment on blogs. Leaving comments on other blogs also can increase your site’s popularity. For this to be effective you must comment on blogs related to your site and your comments should be perceptive.

Create a Facebook business page. Facebook is one of the most important tools for a business—especially a small business—to use. Sharing relevant content with visitors and interacting and liking their comments will build relationships. If your visitors can interact with your page they’re more likely to recommend it to their friends.

Post to Pinterest and Instagram. A picture really is worth a thousand words. If you’re selling a visual product or service, you should post images regularly. It’s free and both platforms have large followings.

Use infographics. DIY infographics are a powerful marketing tool. They’re easy to digest and people love to share them, making them a great way to drive traffic to your site.

Establish a customer referral program. Give existing customers a free product or month of service or some other “reward” for referring new customers.

Host an online event or class. Plan an event or class highlighting your product or service and advertise on your social media sites.

Not every marketing tactic works for everyone. A combination of several—or adaptations to any of them—however, should be helpful to any business.
